**CLOSED**GIVEAWAY: I OXO These Office Supplies from Staples

Over the years, I’ve managed to outfit my desk with the standard desk essentials-stapler, scissors, hole punch, and the stapler puller which I always refer to, in my warped little mind, as the nipple pincher:

I don’t think I ever set out for the store with the purpose of buying any of my desk accessories. Rather, I was in the store, saw it, threw it in the cart, paid the man, and dragged it home. There wasn’t a whole lot of research behind the purchase. My desk accessories work but they don’t always work well and the certainly don’t work FOR me. My stapler leads the pack in laziness. I can’t count how many times I unfold a paperclip because Mr. Stapler decided today would be a fine time to start mangling staples and not putting out. There I am, prying open the stapler and digging out stapler remnants from its guts with my makeshift paperclip scalpel, performing stapler surgery: a staplectomy.

But someone at OXO must have had the same frustrations I have, and decided to one-up the competition and designed office supplies with me in mind. You may own some OXO items in your home; I’ve come to know OXO through their line of kitchen utensils. They make a mean spatula and my potato peeler has an awesome grip designed by OXO, a far better peeler than that cheap silver peeler almost everyone owns that leaves a welt in the palm of your hand after you’ve peeled a pile of potatoes.

And for those of you, who like me, had no clue how to pronounce OXO--it’s not OH-EX-OH, it’s OX-OH.

So what was OXO thinking when they came out with these offices supplies? Why, you. What you do and how you use your office supplies. OXO wants you to do it better, easier and all at a price you can afford. They want you to get maximum use out of those items you use every day. Someone at OXO sat down and said “How can we make it better?” and then they did.

When a UPS brings a box, it’s like a day of chocolate, sunshine and puppies. My first stop is my desk to grab my pair of scissors out of the pen cup I keep them in. I then fan those blades out like a ninja sword so I can slice through the tape to open the box. I’m fortunate that the blades on my scissors are dull and haven’t been able to cut worth a damn since 2002 otherwise I’d have probably sliced a finger open or stabbed myself in the tummy countless times over the years. Someone at OXO must have had to don that ninja suit a few times over the years too when they were coming up with features for the scissors. Besides those comfortable grip handles, OXO scissors have a slide button that causes the blades to cross over and lock so you can use them as a box-cutter. Brilliant!

It took me a second to figure out the stapler when it came. If you’re a parent reading this then you can commiserate; the stapler came in one of those hermetically-sealed hard plastic cases like action figures come in. You know the ones..the ones that you immediately grab a pair of scissors and prepare to spend the next five minutes trying to chew through the plastic to get the toy out, rendering that plastic casing useless if you had to take it back to the store. Lucky for me, I turned it over before I began my plastic pillage…OXO even designed their packaging with you in mind. There’s a cute hole and perforation on the back of the package. One zip and pull and you have an opening to remove the stapler. Then I did what everyone does to load the stapler, I grabbed the base in one hand and the top in the other and tried to pry it open to load staples into it. Don’t do that, it doesn’t open. There’s a cute little button on the back of the stapler. One push and the stapler feed slides out so you can load an entire sleeve of staples on it. My husband describes it as “it’s sticking out its tongue”. Load the staples and push it back in until it locks. I power stapled a sheet of paper to test it; not once did it jam.

Retire the nipple pincher, the OXO staple remover slides under the staple to remove it cleanly without pulling and tearing the paper. OXO must have seen me grab a butter knife to try to remove staples in an emergency. Those push pins? I had mine stored in a small plastic cup. If I need a pin, I’d turn it over and slide them into my hand or dip my fingers into the cup, risking a prick in the finger. The push pin dispenser is a cup with a telescoping magnetic wand on the lid. Open the dispenser and the wand grabs the pins magnetically so you can just grab one off the ones clinging to the wand. It also has a non-skid base so it won’t slide off your desk. That little piece of convenience is reasonably priced at $4.99 at Staples.

So where can you lay in your supply of OXO smarter accessories? At Staples. Staples and OXO have teamed up to bring better office supplies to customers. I think the Pocket Stapler would be a really handy item to have -- I'm always making tons of photocopies at the school library, and I always wish I had a stapler in tow to keep things organized. Thanks for the great giveaway - looks like a terrific set of office supplies!

I like the 16" folding ruler. Finally, a ruler that will fit in a desk and can still measure longer things. I can't wait for our local Staples to open. It's been delayed for months.

Those scissors are awesome. I use my scissors all the time and I never can find my box cutter when I need it.

That hole punch just really looks cool to me. It's completely different from the big clunky hard to use one that I have at home.
